Notification Sounds

Can I set different notification sounds for different apps? I would like different sounds for notifications from FB and for text messages. I only see options for texts, email and calendar.

Also, can i set different sounds for text messages from different people? I went in to contacts and changed the ringtone for my daughter to something different and that worked. However, I also changed the text notification sound for her but that didn't work.

Short answer: Yes
For apps, some apps will let you specify the tone within the app. If it isn't a setting within the app always double check everything in the "applications" menu for that app (what I mean is go to applications, find the app and tap on it and then look at everything available in there...some stuff is in a more area).

For people...if you open their contact record and edit it, click on more and you should see a place to change the ringtone and the message tone.

Not sure why the text notification got messed up...I have one set up and it's working o.k. Maybe try clearing it out and selecting it again.

If you want to get crazy you can always look into Lightflow which gives you the ability to change all kinds of settings. However I'm still trying to figure some stuff out for myself. Example I want a medium blinking GREEN LED for texts and for the life of me I can't get it to do the LED. I think the always on display might be doing something but it seems my other LED specifications are working so I'm just not sure.

Hmm weird. Did you try the same notification or a different one? One other thing you could try is deleting her and adding her back again w the custom settings.

I use light flow too and the light works for all my apps BUT SMS/MMS. I can't figure out how to get it to work either. It also won't play certain ringtones I assigned to groups (my squad at work and one for my besties). I tried in the contact app and in light flow. You'd think it would be easier to do within the text app

I hate to say misery loves company...but THANK YOU for posting this because I thought I was going crazy. It sounds like it is really not ME. Maybe the dev. can do something in Light Flow for the LED w SMS/MMS. It sounds like it's the general setting. I did email them but haven't heard back. And I have since resorted to allowing Messages+ to handle my texts to see how that goes. I VERY GRUDGINGLY did this as a few others have posted that Message+ is actually quite good on VZW...and so far I'm sheepishly admitting I like it. It has a LOT more customization options and I'm not seeing the loss of any stock functionality at all. AND I can have it use a green LED. So I can keep Light Flow in charge of sounds only which works for me...at least at the moment. If Google ever opens up the ability to set specific sounds for specific notifications of theirs I'd be good to go (example, traffic update has the same tone as weather update, etc.). In Light Flow I have a car horn for my traffic updates, a tone for my Keep and regular Reminders...etc.

I do hope they can find a fix too. I'm on AT&T and haven't even considered using their messenger LOL. If I don't get results soon I'll go back to Textra. And yes when I saw your post I felt the same way...I wasn't alone. I had posted on here yesterday that issue, along with bluetooth not connecting and ALways on well not always being on and dimming...I got ZERO responses. SO I def felt liek it was just me LOL

I didn't see your post...I haven't personally had any issues with Bluetooth. I've seen the AOD dim to the point I can't see it and honestly have no idea the rhyme or reason for when/why it happens.

Samsung changed the messaging app on the note 7, I've got support coming in the next release due in about 1 weeks time.

By chance are you on Verizon and using their messaging app (Message+)? If so I discovered that changing the notification tone in contacts does not change it in Message+. I had to actually open the thread of the contact, then the 3 dots in the upper right corner, then "customize" and in that menu I could change the tone. I did this for a text alert I get from my SmartThings system. I had changed it to an "alarm" tone in the contact record but it was still coming through as a text tone. When I opened the text message and went into that customize menu I was able to change it there.
