Okay,
So I don't know if it's just me or what. Ever since the Verizon jelly bean update to my s3 my notifications have not worked. My text messages will not sound when they arrive, the "mail" symbol" does not appear in the status bar,and my notifications light does not flash. My texts messages never show up unless I check my messages app (stock) and sometimes my notifications sound will go off for emails (just sometimes) this is terribly annoying and I can't go another day with my phone acting like this. I have tried turning it off then on,a battery pull, and even a factory reset!! Which took forever and was my last resort to solve this problem. I have tried going into settings in the message app and checked the delete messages after # number, and checked it again to no avail. Could someone please help me fix this? Am I the only one with this problem?

Very strange that a Factory Reset didn't fix your issues. Are you sure that you have the correct system settings (not just the Message app) enabled? Are you using the stock launcher? And stock Messaging app? You're not using Light Flow by any chance?

I have the system settings on loud and vibrate for notifications, stock launcher, stock messaging app, no light flow. However, just today I have actually noticed my phone alerting me to my messages. The sound went off like It should. I'm hoping this problem fixed itself. I'll keep updating if it acts up again, but thanks for the help!

Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to this issue, holidays and such. Phone is still not notifying me of text messages. All hold true from the previous messages, anyone have any ideas?

In the Messaging app settings under Notification Settings, what ringtone is your phone set to?

And is the Notifications box checked in that same area?

Your cellphone network should be able to reset your messaging settings. Sometimes that can happen when you update the firmware. I had the same problem with a previous smartphone. Mind you, I'm in the UK, and US networks might work differently
