Notifications not showing on Home screeen

Just wondering, are there any free diagnostic / troubleshooting Apps out there that I could try?

Not that I know of , if you could maybe stop by your carrier store and they can look over your settings , im thinking something like that

Sorted!
Turned out it was a Google App update that turned the icons black instead of white. Uninstalled and reinstalled the updates sorted it.

That's really weird. Sounds like a glitch that is specific to your device, in relation to the Google app. I'd suggest sending Google some feedback, but I suspect they wouldn't do much to look into this kind of issue on an old device.:-\

Just a reminder that my device is an Asus Zenpad so must be happening across multiple devices.
Guessing that it must be pretty rare though because I've really struggled to find it referred to.

Interesting that though uninstalling and reinstalling the Google app fixes the problem I don't think that, in my case at least, is the cause. I was trying to find a couple of toddler games the other day which involved installing and uninstalling a number from the play store and I realised the icons had disappeared again. Can't be specific about which one, though I suspect it might be any of them because I had my suspicions that similar might have been the cause the first time it happened. Uninstalling the game didn't fix it but uninstalling and reinstalling the Google app updates does. So in my case its the fix not the cause.

Just an update in case it helps anyone.
The problem keeps randomly reappearing and I can't spot the cause yet. It certainly isn't those games that I mentioned above.
Rather than uninstalling and reinstalling I've found that deleting some Google app data sorts it. The top one in the attached screenshot.
It mentions a launcher which somebody mentioned above. Could that be a clue?
