Notifications of email during calls?

Anyone know if it's possible to get an audible notification of an email during a call? I get status bar icon and the summary of the email while swiping down, but I don't get a beep / the ringtone for email doesn't sound. Of course, I get these notification sounds when I'm not on a call. Any ideas welcomed!
