Notifications problem

S20+ 5 G from verizon with latest software updates. Something I just don't understand about notification with going to android 11 I guess.

For example if I send a text and just lay the phone down and go about my business on the computer, I dont get a notification of the reply unless I think about it and pick up the phone to turn the screen on. No notification sound unless after I send the text I exit the texting program. Then I get the notification, is this normal or have I fubar'd something?

nope, But thank you anyways, I figured it out. I forgot to check the other box that said "general notifications.
