Is there any way to set up the texts, phone calls, or other apps on the home screen to have the little notifications bubble like Samsung and Apple do? It just seemed like therr are so many things that aren't there that were in other basic android phones.

Settings - Notifications - setting cog on the top bar - On the lock screen - Show all notification content.

edit: I think i completely misunderstood the question.

It's different in Android. All notifications are shown when you slide down from the top of the screen. You'll see your missed notifications in the top left corner, and when you pull down you can view and reply right from there without going into the app. I prefer it that way rather than seeing a bunch of little red badges showing me how many missed calls or texts I have.

Google/pure android phones don't usually have those badges. Most other androids do. There is an app for it called Notifyer I think.
