Notifications

Good day fellow android peeps.
I have a weird issue I am looking to resolve.
When I get text messages and the screen is dark I don't have AOD on.
I am not getting a preview of my messages. I just upgraded from a S7 edge and it works, I had a note 4 and it works..
How can I get this to turn back on. I've done a soft reset, i've taken it in to a Verizon store and even called customer service and they were clueless.
I'd hate to have to reset my phone to see if it will/wont fix it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What messaging app are you using? I believe Textra has the ability to wake the screen for notifications, I'm not sure if the stock messaging app does; I use it but also have AOD on

i'm using the stock messenger app.
It's the same app i've used on all my previous Samsungs.
AOD does not give me a preview of the message when it comes up..
