Nova Launcher 8.0 Beta

The Nova guys have released a major update today, 8.0 Beta, with this changelog:

- Material You - Custom color schemes based on wallpaper colors
- Redesigned Nova Settings
- New swipe left/right desktop gestures
- Align Bottom immersive folders
- Rebased on Launcher3 Android 12L
- Android 13 fixes

This is a first Beta version so you could find some bugs, better make a Nova backup before installing the new version just in case you want to go back to the old one.

I've been using the new version for most of the day and I really like it. The new settings menu is much nicer and better organised and if you don't like it you can even switch to the old style. The animation for the Home gesture is much better for devices running A12 and A13, which is great.

There are some known bugs. Some specific widgets have problems to show properly and the dock can't be hidden.

For any Samsung users, this new Nova 8 Beta now themes the apps in the Edge Panel. It is also possible to add an app to the gesture 'swipe right', which can be set to open the Google app, so you'll get the same features found in OneUI in addition to all the added features already found in Nova.

I had been using OneUI for the Google feature and the themed Edge Panel app icons, but I'm back to Nova now that these features are available in Nova 8 Beta.

It seems the new version can have problems when installing in A8 and A9. If you're running any of these Android versions better wait until the problem is fixed.

How's gesture navigation on the beta? I'm assuming about the same with the multitasking gesture.

It's been about the same but I do find the new beta a little snappier. Maybe it's a placebo effect lol

Joined the beta yesterday but still a no show. Maybe it's because of the weekend? Did a little research on Nova launcher's origins and found out it was the work of one guy. Never knew that , always thought it was a team effort, also thought it was from a European country but it's Chicago USA. He hired a second to work on the material you stuff in Nova beta 8. Can't wait to try it, looks awesome!

Hehe. Yes, it's not available in the Play Store yet. They use to release major updates, like versions 7 and 8, in four stages.

- Closed Beta where a small group of selected users test the new version privately.
- Public Beta that requires to install the apk manually from their site. Test and feedback goes through their Discord server, where the dev Kevin is very active and helpful. Great guy.
- Beta program, when the app is released in the Play Store for users that joined it.
- Stable version in the Play Store for everyone.

They are still in stage 2.
