Nova launcher Officially Updated To 8

Got the update today today was on 7 now play store updated to 8
And now ruined it (for me).

Stupidly I clicked on the update for Material You theming (which I hate) and only tapped on it being the tinkerer that I am.

Now I can't revert back to the original, even through 'Style' at the bottom of the settings screen.

Even worse I can't go back to any of the previous versions. When I come to install an APK it pops up...."App not installed as package appears to be invalid".

Looks like I'm screwed....😭

Oh man , did you try uninstalling the app then using an older APK?

I noticed about a week ago that I had an update for my Nova Launcher in the Play Store. It kind of surprised me that it popped up there so I looked it up first and saw that it was for Version 8.

I'd been on the beta for 8 for what feels like several years now. The build number was newer than what I had, so I figured I'd update it.

Still works great.

I don't understand this update log at all.

It showed up on my Play Store this morning, showing an update date of April 24th to version 8.0.16.

I'm not in any Beta programme (there's the option to join it on the Store listing) but all info on the net relating to this version is that it is the Beta, including on Nova's website.

It's listed on APKMirror as such as well so I'm getting the feeling something's screwed up somewhere at someone's end.

Edit: I've just checked the Store listing on the website not linked to my app and it shows version 7.0.58, the last stable version.

Maybe they just decided it was time.

I mean, it's been stable for me since the beta started. It's not that drastically different from 7.

Most of the real changes was the whole search thing after they were bought by Branch. Most of that was related to the search functions that Branch added through their services. Since I don't even use the search bar - I hide it as the first thing I do when setting up new phones or resetting current phones - none of that ever affected me.

8.0.17 Beta was released today, the 3rd, which I've received and updated.

As before the update on my Store listing didn't list it as being the Beta which is what totally baffled me with 8.0.16

Following my 'panic attack' yesterday, Nova replied:

"Nova 8.0.16 has been released as a stable release to 66% of Play Store users as it's a staged roll out, just like we almost always do with releases."

Now I know!

I'm going to stick with the new beta 8.0.17.

After reading the reviews of the new version and being filled with complaints about the poor design choices, I think I'm going to stay put.
