So, I know there are two versions of displays found on Evos, but I am wondering which is better as far as quality and brightness. I am on my second Evo and I discovered that I have a 003 Novatec. I really like the display but I am wondering if I should try to get an Epson display instead?

BTW, have Novatec displays been able to be hacked for higher FPS already?

I have a 003 Novatec too. What's weird is most 003's actually have the Epson. From what I've read and after seeing some youtube video's comparing the two I think the Novatec is actually better.

Yes both displays have been hacked already, but the methods are crude and are experimental at this point.

1. Download "Android Terminal Emulator" from the Android Market.
2. Type "dmesg" into the emulator (without the quotation marks).
3. After typing "dmesg" into the emulator, hit enter.
4. Hit the menu button and email the results to yourself.
5. Search for "novatec" and "epson."

I did this and can't find either word.

I would still like to see some comparison videos between the two. :(

I doubt you'll be able to see anything in a video.

HTC has enough sense to use hardware where any difference would be negligible at the most.

Just enjoy your phone and don't sweat the microscopic stuff. ;)

Interesting indeed. I do like the vibrancy of the Novatel (Novatec?). BUT, is there a way to adjust the hue (remove the pinkish tint)? It should be possible as it is easily controllable via software no?!

Hmm... Apparently I have the Novatec in my 003, so that is good, right? I have no pinkish tint.

@Cubfan: You may think you have no tint, but get any other phone with a decent display and you'll see it. You can't tell if it's there without having something else to compare to as your eyes are constantly adjusting its white balance in accordance to the lightest color it sees.

I am expecting my replacement evo today by ups. I got my first one on the 12th but it wouldnt keep a signal got my second on the 16th but my display was way faded compared to the first one just like in the vid. The strange part is they are both hardware version 3 and novatec displays. So I think there is more to it than who made the display. I will report back when the new one arrives.

Got the new one it is also version 3 and novatec display. Looks better than the last one, but not quite as good as the original but good enough.

So Novatec is the way to go I guess? I guess I'll have to stop looking for the pinkish tint. Shouldn't bother me anyways.

There's also the matter of being of one being "correct" vs "different."

Black text on a pure white background is rough on the eyes. So while it may seem like an off-white background is off colorwise, it's actually more pleasing to the eye.

Do go off looking for the one that supposedly has the most accurate color, just go with the one that looks better to you. Yes, once someone plants a seed it's tough to ignore, but you'll be a lot happier if you don't worry about letting others tell you is supposed to be better.

True. I just wish there was some app that allowed you to control contrast/hue/saturation of the screen. I don't know why it doesn't exist already...

People keep talking about that new Samsung phone and the wonderful screen. I have no complaint about the Evo screen on mine. Colors look great, brightness is super on auto, photos shine. Maybe I just got lucky, but I am very picky about these things.
