November Android 12 Security Update

Optimizing apps is either locked up, or it is the slowest I have ever encountered. Not only taking too much time, my battery is dropping faster then a politician drops lies.

I was JUST going to start a new feed about this. I think my update is stuck. I mean it's been sitting there for 15 minutes already. Yours is the same way?

My Pixel 5 started installing the update but seemed to get stuck at a spot about 60% of the way through "optimizing apps," where it's been for at least an hour now. I've tried pausing and resuming, and even turned off and restarted the phone; but when the installation gets to that point again, it doesn't progress any further. At least it's somewhat reassuring to know that I'm not the only one encountering this issue, which has never happened to me before; but I'm beginning to worry that it's the security update that needs to be fixed.

Mine is slowly moving. I suggest just letting it stay there for a while. I plugged my phone in and I'm just going to let it do its thing. Hopefully it will be done soon

Well, it appears that posting my complaint awakened the Android gods, who reached out and immediately remedied the problem. Within a few minutes after posting, my security update completed the installation process. The cause of that lengthy delay remains a mystery, but I hope that everyone else has experienced a successful update.

Started the update and then posted notification about the update. And it finished about five minutes ago. I also did restart and just took me back to where it was. So, I just let it lie, didn't plug in, fed the dogs, walked out to the mailbox (and that is a walk), came back and finally it finished.
Hopefully, that optimization fixed some bugs in some of my apps since Andy 12 was loaded.

By the way, if anyone was in the Android 12 beta program, you must manually opt out in order to get the November update. Details are at 9to5 Google.

The long optimization of apps is normal. Just let it do its thing.
