November Security Update on Marshmallow breaks Google Voice search [solved]

I received the November Security update for Marshmallow on my Nexus 5, today. Now my Google voice search doesn't work. The microphone works because I can use the phone (and people on the other side can hear me). Saying, "OK Google" on the home screen or tapping the mic icon and talking while it's "Listening..." produces no searches.

I've rebooted several times, including in Safe Mode, to no avail. My advice to anyone with a Nexus 5, Marshmallow, and the November security update prompt is to not install it.

My Nexus 6 doesn't have that issue. Is this confirmed on Google's notes?

I have no idea which "Google's notes" you are referring to...?

I did mention it's a Nexus 5.

Yep I'm trying to think of if the issue is localized or something other devices may have as an issue also.

I just tried my Nexus 5. Google Now reacts properly to my voice. I don't actually use Google Now. I went to Hangouts, too, and dictated a short text message. Worked fine.

OP, have you tried clearing your cache partition and/or reinstalling Google Now and/or checking the permissions on the app (MM changed permissions) to make sure it has access to the microphone?

Wiped system cache. Microphone has permission. However, I can no longer use the microphone to dictate a text message (Swype keyboard)

Swype and the text app need permission.

Pressing down midway between the S and the LED flash did the trick.
