Does the G8 have the Now Playing feature for music, similar to what the Google Pixels have?

Do you mean the lockscreen control widget? If so, yes, that's a part of the core Android OS.

So, if there's music playing in my environment, the G8 will identify it automatically?

I don't think the music control widget does that but all you need to do for that is turn on Auto - Shazam on the app

I thought now playing is exclusive to pixel phones .

Different feature from what I referred to then, sorry! (But WHY would Boogle name that as the commonly used 'Now Playing' to display, well, what's playing in your phone?!).
