I just pulled the trigger on the K1. Selling my Nexus 7 2013 I've had lying around to my son. He's a developer and needs an Android tablet to test with. I've been using a Samsung Tab Pro 8.4 for media consumption. Good hardware, but I'm sick of Touchwiz and have no faith it will be updated to 5.0. So I've been ready to make the jump to another tablet. The specs and the $199 price tag sounds like a no brainer. Just wish there was a 32GB option.

It would be nice for a 32GB option but with the 6.0 update, I'm alright with throwing in an SD card and calling it good. I was one of the unlucky ones and my Nexus 7 2013 has been dead since the 5.1 update, so I've been waiting for the Shield Tablet's successor to come out. This is more of a side step but still worthy of the price tag. I can just use my Nexus 7 charger for this as well since it doesn't come with a charger.

Fits the bill perfectly for me my only reservation at this point is the screen and size of it really. With the large bezels does this mean the screen isnt actually 8inch im not too clever on these things

The screen is 8", the tablet is larger than that. I have the original Nvidia tablet which is essentially identical aside from the casing/materials.

Ordered mine yesterday, after going around & around trying to order a tablet from Dell. When this was announced at $200, I checked specs & decided it made a lot more sense. Arrives Saturday, I'll post my experiences later in the weekend.

Will 6.0 allow apps on the SD card? I have a 16 Gb phone and I'm always running into space issues. I have 64 Gb iPad and run out of space on it, too. But much of that could be stored on an SD card. I've been waiting for this to come out so I could get a 32 Gb, LTE version, and with neither of those options, I'm having 2nd thoughts.

Yass, finally! I've wanted the Shield for a few months now, but I never buy new gadgets during the summer, as there are always goodies coming towards the holiday season. Off to the shops I go!

Yes. Here is an article on it Inside Marshmallow: Adoptable storage | Android Central

Thank you. Sounds like a mixed bag, but a potential solution. But now I realize that there may another missing feature. Or at least missing for me. I can compensate for the low storage, and I can live without data network access, but I do need GPS. Too bad. Ive been waiting for the updated Shield since July, but I think I'll have to look elsewhere. The gaming aspects really drew me to this tablet, but they're not enough of a temptation to get me to abandon my other uses for a tablet.

I think it has GPS. The following is from their website.

PROCESSOR NVIDIA® Tegra® K1 192 core Kepler GPU
2.2 GHz ARM Cortex A15 CPU with 2 GB RAM
DISPLAY 8-inch 1920x1200 multi-touch Full-HD display
VIDEO FEATURES 4K Ultra-HD Ready
AUDIO Front facing stereo speakers with built-in microphone
STORAGE* 16 GB
*Portion of storage occupied by system software.
WIRELESS 802.11n 2x2 MIMO 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi,
Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS / GLONASS
INTERFACES Mini-HDMI output, Micro-USB 2.0, MicroSD slot
3.5 mm stereo headphone jack with microphone support
MOTION SENSORS 3-axis gyro, 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis compass

Good catch. Maybe this one is back in play. I'm still disappointed that I've been waiting for them to refresh the line, and they basically released the same thing with fewer options, but the price is right, and it sounds like it's still working for people. I may have to give it a try.

It does have GPS. Says it right on their site.

My mistake. I thought the specs in the OP were complete, and I didn't see GPS in them.
