Obb data being read for only one game on ext SD card?

My device is rooted, no real custom rom, just MM 6.0.1 rooted, Verizon brand. I have tried other roms such as Phoenix, but nothing else works. Anyway, that aside I have always been able to directly install Oddworld Strangers Wrath into the external SD card in ext SD -> android -> obb and it runs just fine. But I've tried a bunch of other games and none work this way. I've checked the properties with lucky patcher and set the same settings oddworld had to others and nothing works. I know xposed framework is needed to do this normally, but, I don't understand why oddworld had never had an issue working this way and other games won't without xposed?
