Okay, so I've been using nova launcher for about a week and a half on my Nexus 6, and before of course I was using Google now launcher. The one thing I have noticed is that with the Google now launcher under normal everyday usage from myself the Google Search app in the battery usage bar was always at about 15 to 16% battery and with nova launcher my Google search app is at 2% battery and me and double the amount of battery life with Nova Launcher. Has anyone else ever experienced this before?

Google search eats battery. If you remove it from the stock launcher you'll save battery too. (But I prefer Nova - been using it for years on every phone. It's one of the first things I do to a new phone.)

Just started to use a Note 4 as my daily driver. Presently using std. launcher that came with the phone. Can you give me some reasons you use Nova or can you point to a good basic reading source so I can get educated. Thanks. Former WP user. Good to see Laura over here.

Yes,,, I've noticed that with Nova Launcher vs Google now launcher that the Google search app again uses much less battery power per charge, things run to says snapping and quick as ever and even the quick toggle menu on the top to get into the batteries of settings I can access a little bit quicker although maybe that's just me. I do like the souped up Customization settings in Nova Launcher such as adding more icons in the dock bar so I don't have to have folders for everything for example my camera app and my gallery app can sit side by side and my messaging applications can sit side by side without being in folders from or organization. Which is really nice. I swear again maybe it's just me, but also with Nova Launcher it seems that when a person than on the Google voice input microphone icon on the keyboard, it's more accurate and it connects to the internet work faster and more accurately. Again, maybe its just me, but I notice it. Yes, I also like the icon packs of a simple clear white icon pack but it's just another customization setting that stock Google now launcher doesn't have is basically a souped up Google now launcher because I still have my Google now cards page by pressing and holding the home button and swyping me up as anyone else can do but I have other things as well which every Android user loves as well!

One thing to keep in mind is that the Google Launcher IS Google Search. Its the same app... .they 'launcher' part is basically just an extension loaded on to the Google app to turn it into a launcher.

As for the battery usage... hard to say. I use the hell out of Now.... but it never really uses up a ton of power. This has my curiousity piqued though, so I might run a test with Nova to see what is going on.

Yeah its really weird with Nova Launcher, my Google Search app that I use it is a way that down on my phone with the Google now launcher! I don't know how or why but it is. I'll send you a screenshot of what I am talking about.
