Ocean Depths looks right in the video (it changes color depending upon the lighting). Just like what was shown before. Really gorgeous in every way, but of course I got my white one, with the 360 camera, for $399 before taxes. Hard to beat.
My hope is that late this year or early next Essential will come out with V2 of their phone that looks the same but gets rid of the serious problems, such as a the crap camera (it is still crap, even with all updates), lack of any water resistance and those pesky touchscreen issues.
Do all that AND release an Ocean Depths version, I will buy in an dump the white one on Swappa. Likely at a huge loss.
So I ordered the new Ocean Depth phone and received an email stating that I will be informed when it is ready to ship. This is essentially Essentials modus operandi. I find it extremely irritating that the phones are supposedly ready to ship but then you receive NO estimate of shipping date. So today I wrote to Essential that if they could not give me a shipping date now that indicates the phone will be shipping in the very near future, I want my order canceled immediately. I refuse to be the ad hoc and uninformed working capital provider to any company without being told that that is what I am doing.
To be fair, it could also be they sold out of their initial stock already and that is why you don't have a shipping date, yet. It is very possible they had a very small number on hand initially, as they weren't sure what the demand would be, particularly since the PH-1 has not sold well.
