Nice! I'm trying to decide if I want to buy a Gear VR or not. I had the 2015 model with my S7. I figure the new model with the S8 must look a lot better since the phone has a higher resolution. Am I right?

No, resolution is pretty much the same. Pixels were added for the top and bottom in the same way that 1080p ultrawide monitors actually run 2560 x 1080 instead of 1920x1080. So the DPI is almost identical if you compare the big and small versions of the s8 and s7 together. If there is any resolution gained it is quickly lost because the image needs to stay away from the round edges.

About the only boost s8 gives to VR is framerates. 90 is ideal but the target for mobile vr is like 60, either way the smoother the better.
