Odd text in search bar?

This came up just yesterday, is anyone else seeing this on their Pixel?

Pixel 2 XL, running stock launcher, "Search web and apps" continually shows on home screen in Google bar.

Force closed Google app, restarted phone, nothing yet has been able to clear text.

Any thoughts, suggestions? Is anyone else seeing this on their devices?

Yeah, I have it too, sucks! But mine shows "Search."

seems like it's an A/B that Google is doing with users to see how they want to lay it out. you can't remove it

I noticed this last evening and was ready to retract my defense of the docked search bar. The "Search apps and web..." text was still there this morning but disappeared after clicking on the search bar. I hope it doesn't reappear.

Same, now mine just says "Search..."

That only shows if I expand the search bar when its in dock position nothing shows

Mine says "Search" now and it popped up after installing 8.1.

Update: mine continues to show even after tapping and typing something into search. fades in and out as I expand the app drawer. definitely not a glitch, it is there on purpose, but I don't understand why.

Are you on 8.1? Mine showed this text after updating to 8.1 so I'm assuming it is a new "feature".

Who knows. I don't see it as a bug deal, as I don't even notice it.

I'm on Nova launcher so I don't see it. Yeah it will be adjusted on the next update.

Yeah Google are testing this.

I don't mind it. Obviously to us, we don't need to be told it's the search bar, but for the general public, it might be useful to them.
