[Odin] Froyo leaked packaged custom ROMs w/root and clockwork **UPDATED**3/25

Pattyrick - Yes just follow the instructions that are on page 1 of this thread...im a noob at this too, this is the second phone i've rooted over the years. Had the Droid originally then came to the facinate i have now. It works and helps with battery life...definately a must do with our smartphones now

Sorry I'm completely new to this and I wanted to try this out. So if I follow these directions exactly going from stock EA28, I'll end up with root and froyo? I don't have to go through other threads to go and root my phone? Ahh I guess what I'm asking is, are these steps all I need to get root and froyo. Haha sorry I'm a bit wary going into this, and I've still no idea what roms and kernels are

Yes, this is all you need. It is an all-in-one package where you get root and Froyo. If you want to understand more and understand better what you are doing and what everyone is saying give this post a read:

this is what the phone reports

the first ver 2.2.1 kern s:i500.04 vEB01 build number sch-i500.eb01

i hope that made sence

You are running EB01 so use the file that does not wipe, the second one.

Good you are running EB01 which is Froyo already. You can go ahead and download the Superclean 2.8 non-wipe then use Odin to flash it. I went from Superclean 2.4 => Superclean 2.6 => Superclean 2.8 without wiping. I only used the wipe method for the 2.4 flash.

Alright thank you harbormatt and LandShark. One more question,.if I do follow through this, will I keep my homescreen settings and my LauncherPro settings? I like how my phones set up, so will I keep the same settings? If not, how do I backup my things before I go through this?

You will need to flash with one of the Odin files which will wipe your phone. You can use Titanium Backup to backup everything but you need root for that first I'm pretty sure.

The wipe doesn't touch your SD card but I pull mine out when I Odin anyway.

So I should follow a how to root thread, root, get titanium backup from the android market right? and then come back to this thread?

When I went from stock to Superclean 2.4 I had to wipe and did just that. I followed the steps to root phone, installed titanium backup, backed up everything to the SD with tibu, then used Odin to push 2.4 but in your case push the Superclean 2.8 that wipes phone (the first one listed), reboot phone and use tibu to restore apps and data but don't restore any system stuff.

Let's clear something up

Your phone is not 'bricked'

If you can boot your phone to ANY mode, you are not bricked. If your phone can be seen in ODIN, you are not bricked.

If you can't boot to any screen, connect in anyway, and you have been told by consensus on the forum that there is nothing left to try, you are bricked.

The proper technical terms is I 'borked' my phone, please help.

So can people please stop saying I 'bricked' my phone.

Alright thanks cwalter9! I'll go and try it during halftime of the Spurs game lol. You all have been very helpful, hopefully it works

Should be wiping any data before i flash 2.8 from 2.6 or can i just go ahead and flash 2.8

I would think you should be safe flashing straight from 2.6 to 2.8, but it can't hurt to wipe cache and dalvik cache. Definitely no need to wipe data.

You don't need to follow any threads that have to do with root. When you use Odin, and one of the packages that DroidXcon has provided, you'll always get root unless you're putting in DI01 or a true stock rom from Verizon. If you put one of those in, then yes, you need to follow root instructions, but why would you do that when you're coming here to get a hacked Froyo ROM?

That said, yes, get something like Titanium and backup your phone. Then come to the dark side and get one of the ROMs here like Super Clean 2.8, and make sure that you get the one that wipes the data from your phone. You'll see two different packages, one with a little x after the SC28 and one without. The one without the little x is what you want when coming from Eclair 2.1.

When your phone boots back up, after following the instructions on the original post, you'll have a brand spanking new phone. I like it so much that I get tempted every day to walk into my local Verizon store and yell SUCK IT! because I get better treatment from the folks here than I ever have through VZW.

I'm very hip on updating my phone with the non wipe versions of the packages, and I don't wipe anything before I do my upgrades. Currently running 2.8 Super Clean from the SC28x package, and everything sings.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But there are those that are superstitious, so if wiping makes you feel better...
