Phone was down to 18% in 4.5 hours...mostly idle. It's amazing that these ROMs added twice the life to the phone.

that is probably because you had all the background services running such as tango, skype, some messenger maybe, etc.
...but yes custom roms do extend battery greatly by removing a lot of unneeded bloat and optimizing.

It's funny that people just assume that. I actually had none of those running.

Stock is awful on batt... I have been back on stock for a couple of weeks cause I have been having trouble with my bluetooth. The stock batt life is miserable.... I'll be putting a custom rom back on it as soon as my issues are resolved.

I can go all day, unless i'm extreme roaming (i do that i log where I live, 1 bar of roaming). wifi gets left on all the time, gps is normally off, some netflix, some pandora, moderate texts and calling and lots and lots of active sync email. normally have to charge after about 14-15 hours.

EDIT: completely stock and with widgetLocker always running.
