Microsoft Office and Word have worked for years on my S3, S4, and now S7. I bought a Samsung View and it will only let me view documents but require me to purchase a subscription to Office 356. WHY.?????

Simply because Microsoft requires you to have a 365 plan to use all the features of the Mobile Office apps. On the support page, it indicates that "*Basic editing is possible only on some documents (see the note below), and also depends on what type of device you're using the apps on." Emphasis mine.

Also noted that the View is a very large device, and may fully require a paid 365 subscription. Windows tablets over 10.1" require the use of full office, I suspect that the View falls under the same category.
