"Official" fps unlock question

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how the official fps unlock is done? Is it done the way it's been done with the custom kernels (doubling the refresh rate). Or is it being done another way? Reason I ask is there's been a lot of talk about how the fps unlock is currently being done and how its detrimental to the phone. I'm curious if htc just did the same or if they used another way. If it's been done another way, then do you guys think future custom kernels will be done the same way?

My buddy has the new OTA and he says its fast...

My opinion I think they Uncapped it for real not that Refresh hack we've all had this whole time...

I would agree. I think HTC would just be shooting themselves in the foot if they took the hack and released it as a true fix. They would be better off keeping the cap at 30 FPS.

I can just imagine the bad press when developers figured out that they just took a hack and released it as a "fix".

I suspect the hack is the fix. Really suspicious that the stock fix has the same issues with flash audio that the hack fix experienced. And now they're going to have to add a fix to the fix to resolve that.

I'm extremely curious about this too. If the new OTA makes the phone THAT much smoother, it sounds like the hack to me, not simply "uncapping" the fps.

My buddy said Quicker then the Hack Kernels...

so Im not sure...

I just installed it, and it's nice. Impressive, even. Not quicker than the hacked kernels I've used like Baked Snack or Vaelpak. Feels about the same to me. Nice and buttery smooth... about time, actually. :)

Yeah, I'm sure some devs over at xda will figure it out eventually. Heck, if the OTA fix is better/more efficient than the hacked kernels, then I'm sure we'll get the 'real' fix on our kernels eventually.

With the official ota unlocked fps all recorded videos play perfect no hiccups at all... for me it was still very choppy on baked snack

Another reason to think this is more then just a Screen Refresh hack... Just sayin'

I wanna get my hands on this Kernel already...

Yea has anyone extracted the kernel and placed it in a nice zip for flashing over one's fav rom? I've looked on xda and haven't seen it..

Still no word? This may sound like a stupid question.. But if htc uncapped it by a different way than the refresh rate trick, what if you still double the refresh rate on top of whatever way they uncapped it? How much smoother would things be?
