I have had my OG DINC for about a year now. Loved the phone! Great ROM community, which really made rooting my phone worth it.
I am up for an upgrade now, and with the tax return on it's way, I am seriously considering getting a new phone. However, with how much I have loved my DINC, I want it to be worth upgrading. I figure this shouldn't be too difficult, considering how old the DINC is now.
My wife just got an LG Revolution for a penny off of Amazon. She loves it. 4G, HDMI out, rooted easily. Flashed a custom ROM, which got rid of Bing and got it running a little more smoothly. All in all, she is very happy with it, and I am a little jealous of some of the features it has that my DINC is lacking. However, the development community for this phone seems pretty small. They may be getting a version of CM9 on it soon, and that would be awesome. But I kind of like having a few options to flash and see if I like them. I know... I am spoiled.
So, here's a list of the things I am looking for in a new phone. I realize that I might not be able to find ALL of them in one phone, but most would be nice. Based on these things, can you all give me some suggestions?
- Obviously, I am on Verizon, so it would have to be a Big V phone.
- 4G would be nice, but it is negotiable. I live in an area without 4G coverage and only go to the city where I can actually take advantage of 4G about twice a week.
- Decent camera. I am not too picky about MP, but I want the pictures to look nice. My phone is the only camera that I carry with me.
- Front facing camera. My wife's phone has one, and it would be nice to Skype with her from work, or Skype with our family out of town.
- Easy to root, with decent ROM community. Like I said above, I got spoiled with my DINC's community of devs.
- HDMI out would be awesome. We live in an area without cable TV, but excellent Verizon 3G. No idea how that happened, but it means that we watch a lot of Netflix, and being able to pipe it directly from my phone would be ideal. Yeah... We don't have broadband here either...
- Mobile Hotspot. This is another MUST. Verizon 3G is the only internet I have available at home, and I need to be able to tether to my PC and tablet.
- Gorilla Glass would be nice. Not a must though. I am not picky about screen size either. Virtually anything out now is going to be bigger and better than my DINC anyway.
- Dual-Core would also be nice. Not going to make it a must, but I would like to take advantage of it for ICS.
That should be everything. Suggest away.
