OK Google Hotword Detection?

So I had changed my settings so that my voice unlocks the phone and I can activate it, even while locked, with "OK Google". Sometime in the last few days it has somehow reverted back so that the phone has to be unlocked before it responds to "OK Google". I've checked the lock screen and the Google Now settings which all seem to be correct. Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone having the same problem?

Try a reboot maybe. My 5X started doing the same thing a few days ago but a reboot seemed to fix it.

Wow. I honestly don't know why neither of those popped into my head. I thought I was a master of "turn it off. turn it back on." Rebooting seemed to get it back. Thanks to both of you!

OK, so after working once, it's back to not recognizing OK Google when the phone screen is off. It also seems like my Android watch regularly loses the connection when my phone is laying flat. I went into the battery optimizer and turned off optimization for Google App, Google Now and Android Wear. That hasn't seemed to fix the voice issue - I'll have to watch to see if it affects the watch issue. I just don't understand why the voice activation would suddenly stop - it was working very well. I did download an update but I haven't heard anyone else having issues. Hmmmmm....
