"ok google read last text" results in "I couldn't find any"

Moto E 2nd gen, not rooted, current on all updates.

This worked as recently as a few days ago. Today... it doesn't.

Text messages are there... and there are a lot of them.

I did recently do an SMS backup/restore to fix some another odd problem: Tasker state variable "unread text messages" was showing true even when there were none unread. I did a backup/restore of SMS messages and it did fix that issue. I don't know if this was the cause of the problem or not. But I am stumped as to figure out how to fix this.

Nope. I have yet to buy a clue on this one. Wife has the same phone with the same carrier and it continues to work fine for her.
