HI,

I want to root my samsung galaxy s3 in order to do mobile hotspot however, I am afraid that if I root it, T-mobile will refuse to unlock it so that I can use it overseas while on vacation. Can you call your carrier to unlock your phone after you rooted it?

Thanks,
:)

Under most circumstances these two things have nothing to do with each other. It is not illegal to root it; it's merely likely to void your warranty. They won't take it away from you and you are not (unless something major has changed that I'm not aware of) violating your terms of service. T-Mobile doesn't ever need to see or access your device to accomplish this process for you, so the odds of them discovering you're rooted, even if they cared, are low.

In most cases the process is just that they'll give you a code; you'll have to insert a SIM from another carrier, and when you do it'll prompt you for the code; enter it and you're done. Please be careful not to enter the code incorrectly, too many bad attempts can make it much more difficult to unlock.
