Since I tend to only want to take it off the cradle when I'm about to use it, so as not to drain power, albeit slowly, even when its turned off, how bad is it to leave it on the cradle, usb plugged in, or not, but then its still accessing the power in the cradle?

I'd leave it on the cradle and plugged in. No harm will be done to any Li-ION batteries this way. If you let it discharge all the time, the battery will be harmed as it only have a few hundred full discharge cycles of life span.

So leaving it plugged in for whenever I'm not about to use it before work, etc is ok. Cause I mean its going to be plugged in a lot then.

Yes and no. It's best not to let it drain completely and best not to charge it if it's already above 85%. Same with any lithium ion battery.
