This is an article about the oleophobic coating of the S24 Ultra wearing off and smudges showing as a result. I must say that I experienced this not as bad as on the pictures in the article, but it is enough that I have to use a samsung screen protector to avoid this smudges and fingerprints.

Sorry this has happened to you. Maybe Samsung will remedy the issue for you?

without suggesting "operator error," surely different individual's body chemistry, environment, usage frequency, pressure when swiping, etc. can have an impact, yes?

Thats awful. Oddly enough, i removed my Samsung screen protector because of smudges. About a month or so ago, I was watching a movie with a dark scene, and the smudging was awful. I removed the sp and it's so much better. Maybe the sp saved my screen's coating? Idk... And my hands are always a bit oily due to lotions or moisturizing hand sanitizer.

Yeah mine had screen protector since I got it , sucks for the ones not using a screen protector.

But then what's the point of the oleophobic coating? Sales and price justification to the masses is my guess.
The coating is by definition only a temporary solution to cleaning your screen.
I didn't get the S24 Ultra cause of there new coated screen, i always put a Glass Screen Protector on my phones , no scratches ever as well with the glass screen protector.

Doesn't the oleophobic coating naturally start to wear off after time?

Seems like every phone I've had (since Samsung started applying the coatings) starts off so slick that my fingertip slides a smidge, almost uncontrollably, whenever I try to isolate a specific screen tap (like moving the cursor). But then that slipperiness decreases over time. That said, I never use screen protectors.

But if this gets progressively worse for me I'll switch to a top-end screen protector that has the coating.

I think it does wear over time but I have no experience with bare screen always put a screen protector day one

I've never used a screen protector and have never experienced this issue, even when working in filthy environments in construction. I could only hazard a guess. (S10+ - S24U)

I don't have any suspicious areas like in those tweets. My problem lately is the build up of smudges even with light use. It's occurring much quicker than before and really just an annoyance.

I can tell you, other than regular hand washing, that's all I do. I cannot stand the feeling of lotion on my hands, and it takes forever to absorb, so my hands and fingertips this time of year are dry AF.

Regardless of what's happening, I bought a Torras brand glass screen protector and installed last night. I increased the display sensitivity and created the max of new fingerprint profiles. Everything seems to work fine. The FPS isn't as accurate but it's manageable. The trade-off is now I can go all day and barely have smudge buildup.

The question here is did they have these issues with previous phones? If it was these things then it would have been a issue way before now IMO..
