New HTC One- All Photos Disappeared!!!!

I just got a new (replacement) HTC One. They transferred all my photos from the old one to the new one. We double checked it at the store. They were all there! The tech went ahead and started updates on apps, and all was good. Got in the car, went home. When i got home, NO PHOTOS. They are gone. Can that happen during a Gallery Update? I hooked up to computer, nowhere! There is no SD card. I hadnt backed them up yet, and planned on doing that from the new phone. These are pics of my children and family. Im devastated.

Any suggestions? How can they just disappear if i didnt delete them? Its like 9GB of photos/videos. :'(

Welcome to Android Central! Is this the M7 or M8 HTC One?

Use a file manager app like ES File Explorer and look around. Maybe the person from the store copied the photos to an unconventional directory.

Its an M7. I will try that- but wouldnt i still be able to find it once connected to the computer? and When he had me check to make sure everything looked ok at the store- the pics were in the Gallery. The only other thing i noticed when i got home, i was looking through the apps and there was a note on the Gallery app saying the app wasnt supported by my this device. So i checked for system updates and there was one- did that and it doesnt say its cot compatible anymore- but my pics are still gone. Its almost as if my photos were in the Gallery that came on the phone, and when it updated it, it replaced it. i dont know

Re: New HTC One- All Photos Disappeared!!!!

When you connect a phone to the computer via USB using the MTP protocol, the computer can't see every single folder. It should see the usual media folders, but if the store rep somehow copied the photos to some folder that normally doesn't show up on the computer, you wouldn't be able to see them from the computer. That's why the file manager app might help. If you can find the folder where the photos are, make sure there isn't a ".nomedia" file present, because this prevents the system from scanning that folder for media.

I'm also not sure exactly how the store rep transferred the photos. This seems unlikely, but I wonder if only the gallery's thumbnail database was transferred, instead of the actual photos.
