Nexus 5 / Lollipop Hangouts keeps changing Chat Message Sound randomly

Using Nexus 5 w/ Lollipop. I use Hangouts for text messaging and have the Chat Message Sound set to a specific sound for some people (call it sound A). I have the default Chat Message Sound set to another sound (call it sound B). And for a third person it is set to another (call it sound C).

The chat message sound for one person (that I set to sound A) keeps changing to sound C from time to time (like daily if not more) and when this happens I'll go back in and change it back to sound A. Then a while longer it changes itself back to sound C.

For others whom I don't have a specific sound set up (i.e. they use the default sound B) they also from time to time keep changing to sound C. I change them back to the default (sound B) when this happens and a while later the sounds gets changed back to sound C.

This is driving me nuts and it only started occurring within the last couple weeks.

Anyone else experiencing this problem or have a solution. Anyone, anyone, Google, Google?

I have been having the same problem. I also have the Nexus 5 with Lollipop operating system.

I have not noticed the default tone randomly changing, but that could be partly due to the fact that I don't receive many messages from people who would use the default tone. I have had the problems with Sound A changing to Sound C on a very regular basis.

One thing I have learned recently is that the ringtone must be changed in two locations: in the 'Hangouts' App, but also through your 'Contacts' App. So, I checked to see if that was the fix for the message sound as well, but there is no option to change message tones through the 'Contacts' App, just the ringtone.
