One-Click Root for Epic Touch?

Hey guys....been reading the Rooting forums for the Epic Touch and am curious if we had anything (stable root) for a "one-click root" similar to AT&T's version that will also install clockwork mod.

From what I've gathered in this forum, you get an unstable kernel from rooting and/or lose clockwork mod.

Have the developers been able to enable one-click root+clockwork mod yet?

I've rooted and flashed roms with ease on the Nexus S, but after reading a lot about unstable kernels, no clockwork, etc, I'm a little scared that I'll mess up my phone lol.

Any reccommendations?

That makes two of us on the matter. Ive seen a few methods that are out, but they all run some kind of risk which I am not in the mood for!

There is no one-click currently. The only way to root is to flash a pre-rooted kernel using Odin, or flash (again with Odin) a stock pulled kernel that has been packaged with CWM, like this one ... [ACS][KERNEL][ODIN] Stock Pulled Repacked with CWM5 - xda-developers ... then use CWM recovery to flash the SuperUser ZIP.

Honestly, it's about as easy as it gets. And root is not causing LOS. Some pre-rooted kernels seem to have made LOS more common, but if you root with the stock kernel you will have no greater LOS occurrences, if any at all, as you did before. The LoStKernel has seemed to do a good job in adding tweaks but not adding any increases in LOS, but I'm still testing it. I never had a single LOS pre-rooted, and haven't had one yet since rooting with the LoStKernel, but I haven't been rooted long. So far so good though.

Jaywill, after flashing this do you have stock Tom too? And does any root program work greatly? As well as the gps, is it better it lil worse? If so what did you do to fix it up? Thanks man I just want to jump into a good root, with all working but with the wonders of root! And if I want to go to factory stock, all clear ect, as in the epic 4g Odin the whole official rom to be fully stock?, is it possible yet, or no?

Doing what I described above gives you the stock ROM and stock kernel but with root and CWM recovery. I won't give any performance improvements above stock, because ... well, it's STOCK! But it will allow you to install apps that require root like Titanium Backup, or get wifi tethering among other things.

Well performance isn't a problem with the phone at the moment , is fast enough for me!

Though is your GPS, working normaly previous to rooting? Thank you man

Well, i went ahead and Flashed the LosKernel From the link you posted, Odin and Renamed the file to StockCWM5.tar by just removing the .md5 name from it, though i boot normaly to my phone, but i can't seem to bring up CWM5... wtf? i hold the Volume Up+Power, watch the phone reboot, then I just have the Samsung Galaxy 2 ii900 and a yellow triangle, but i can't seem to reach CWM at all :/ is just stuck there.

The CWM5.tar was updated, and all users who flashed to the new version are unable to get into ClockWork recovery. Chris is working on a fix that should be out by tomorrow.

alright guys....my patience ran dry, and i went ahead and rooted+cwm thru odin.

end results: root+cwm.....no LOS. its works just like it should thanks to all the devs out there. If you guys need some help just pm me and i'll get back with ya.

LOL! This is pretty general. You CAN brick you're phone with Odin if you're not careful. People have flashed TAR files to their modem, flashed PIT files, flashed kernels meant for other phones, checked the wrong boxes, etc. (DON'T DO ANY OF THIS STUFF!) The process is fairly idiot proof but it will let you completely eff up your phone if you don't do your homework ahead of time.

Honestly chubbs, I really doubt its going to get easier than it already is. But it's your call of course. This phone runs so well stock there are rather limited reasons to root anyways depending on your point of view.

If you root, you can always go back to stock unrooted system.
The reason I rooted was to change my dpi and remove apps.

Got my phone yesterday. Decided to root this morning following qbking77's videos. Seriously, you don't need a 1 click root for this. I rooted my phone in less than 10 secs. The part that took longest was downloading the drivers and files. You open up Odin, load up the tar file, connect your phone to the computer and hit start.

You can wait for a 1 click root solution, but I'm telling you, just watch qbking's videos and do follow what he does. Can't beat it.

It even loads CWM recovery on your phone, so you can start flashing roms. I flashed Calkulin's ROM just now. All I gotta say is WOW. I thought stock was fast (coming from LG optimus running custom ROM). This one blows it out of the water.

I'm brand new to Android having picked up the Epic 4g Touch on release date. I've yet to flash anything. Anyway, I'd like to get root access and the LoStKernel onto my phone, and then possibly Calkulin's ET4G ROM. I'm assuming to do so, I'd have to follow the following steps:

1) Flash "eg30Plus Stock Rooted Busybox CWM 5 and Plus Tweaks" with ODIN.
2) Flash LoStKernel with CWM
3) Flash Calkulin's ET4G ROM with CWM

If the above is accurate, will step 1 or 2 make me lose and have to restore my stuff - apps, contacts, settings etc? Is there a easy/convenient way to backup/restore all that stuff afterwards? If I decide to go with Calkulin's ROM, can I skip step 2 because he uses the LoStKernel in his build? In his video guide to installing Calkulin's ROM, QBKing77 refers to making an "Android Backup" prior to installation...what exactly is that, and how do you do it? Do any of the backup/restore options available end up restoring you to a previous Kernel, or do they just restore data/apps/messages and stuff like that? Thanks for the patience with my inexperience.

Step #1 is unnecessary. Chris41g packaged his kernel as TAR files as well. Just download the tar.md5 file and flash that using Odin (don't worry about the .md5 being at the end, it'll flash fine in Odin). This will give you LoStKernel, Root and the latest Clockwork Mod Recovery.

For the kernel download, you want the latest (the one at the bottom) of either the Standard or Experimental build. I've been using the latest Experimental (1.0.0.8) and it's running great, so I'd recommend that one. I believe this is the one in Calkulin's ROM anyways.

Flashing the kernel will not wipe anything, but flashing Calkulin's ROM will (you have to do a full wipe before installing) but I think you know this. The "Android backup" qbking is referring to is called a Nandroid backup. Jwill, thank you very much for the response. One other question. Can CWM restore apps, contacts, sms threads, call history while leaving the newly installed kernel or rom intact?
