Android Central Question

Hello guys,
i think it is time to upgrade from my galaxy s8+ to a new flagship of 2020. I am between OnePlus 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20+. i would like to mention that if i buy the galaxy i would get it with the exynos 990 processor because here in Greece and Europe we dont get the snapdragon. Also i am not very interested in 5G capabilities as here in Greece we do not have it yet, probably in the next 1 - 2 years it will start to spread.

Thank you!

Living in Europe I would go for the 1+8. I would choose the snapdragon over the Exynos every day of the week. It has better battery optimisation and is just a better chip overall. The Samsung is a good phone but not necessarily for Europe.

Hmmmm. That's a tough decision. I love OnePlus phones, especially there most recent 7 and 8 series but it comes down to your preferences: samsung devices technically have a more diverse ecosystem with their watches, Galaxy buds, samsung Sex, etc. Also, you can do more true multitasking on the Galaxy phones such as pop up view. Camera quality is getting close, but Samsung still takes the win, especially in videos and selfie quality. The ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is more secure and the display doesn't have to light up for the fingerprint sensor to work.

However, OnePlus Oxygen OS, timely updates, improved cameras; I love their haptics, really, just as good, if not better but, especially if you're budget conscious.

Right now I have an Ultra...I want the OP8 pro as well, and the upcoming Note 20...I'm a mess.

So yea, just do your research based on your preferences.

Weren't Exynos Samsung's more battery efficient back in the S7 days?

The issue is that I worry that the OP8 display is flawed. I had burn-in on mine after just 5 days and the OP forums are full of complaints about burn in and black crush and the software solution from OP for the crush was to raise the minimum brightness, so a workaround not a fix . I returned mine.

In my time with it other than the large camera bump making wireless chargers slighly awkward I think the 8 Pro is better irrespective of the exynos argument.

Not a fan of the colour though as in the UK we get the green which I was never sure of! I quite like the battleship grey on the S20s

Whatever you do, do NOT get the Exynos version. In the past the difference was ok to bear but not anymore. The difference between Snapdragon vs Exynos is huge. I had the 512GB Galaxy S20+. It overheats if you do anything intensive on it. Games would start out smooth then quickly start to become jerky due to thermal throttling. Not a game BTW I was just testing it. Then the battery, just doing basic audio streaming for 1 hour and a half and getting a few Whatsapp messages + Instagram, I had to charge it twice to thrice a day! I sold it within one month and took a 300 USD loss! Don't!

I got a Pixel 4 myself but the OnePlus 8 Pro is also great as it has a better camera. I didn't get it because of the screen issues which have been mitigated by software updates but I am not one who would pay north of 1000 USD for a phone that has any issue.
