OnePlus One became unusably slow overnight. Flash memory corrupted?

Hi all!

I have been loving my OnePlus One and tweaking around with it as much as possible, learning the ropes from Apple to Android and I finally settled on CM13 about two months ago.

The phone was running fine until one day it started getting slower and slower by the minute. By the end of the day, it took me 5 seconds to unlock the screen and 10 seconds to do just about anything else with the phone (open app-drawer, settings, uninstall apps). Interesting thing was, when I booted up let's say Real Racing 3, the game ran just fine, absolutely no slowdown!

Fixing this phone has been a project of mine for quite some time, but I now feel as if it's a fruitless project. I can't find any suggestions online and am getting desperate :(

I have tried;
Complete factory resets multiple times, and a TWRP Data, Cache, Dalvik clean
Installing lightweight ROMs (SlimSaber, OxygenOS)
Using TWRP's Format Data and removing the installed OS, installing CM13 again after that. Absolutely no use.
Filling up all available memory and then emptying it, both manually and thru an App from the Play Store
Installing a clean ROM seemed to help the very first time I did it with OxygenOS, and then the phone slowed down about 10 minutes in. Now the phone is slow no matter what I do.

Any and all input/comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

Welcome to Android Central! Does this also happen in Safe Mode? To get into Safe Mode, power down, then power back on again normally. As soon as you see the boot logo, press and hold Vol Up and Vol Down until the homescreen appears. It should now be in Safe Mode, which means any 3rd party apps are disabled. Does it still behave sluggishly?

Phone was as sluggish as ever when booted into safe mode, but something really interesting happened.

I had about 15% battery left when I rebooted into safe mode, and I heard the low battery tritone sound while the marshmallow animation came up (again, choppy as all hell and taking 30 seconds to finish), like, five seconds into the animation. The same happens while typing, I can basically write an entire sentence and then wait 4-5 seconds for the phone to catch up (show the buttonpress animations, output the letters)

It seems like the animations are whats slowing the phone down so much, because otherwise the phone behaves as it should (in applications, booting up, etc.) ?_? Or am I just stupid?

I'm not really sure what's going on. Is it still really sluggish if you go into Developer Options (if available on CM or Oxygen) and turn off animations?

Ultimately, as you wondered in your title, it may be due to corrupt or defective hardware.

I have a oneplus one. Just updated today to dragon fruit 6.0.1. Everything is smooth except for one thing - my lock screen disappeared! I cannot lock my phone!

It might be a good idea to create a new thread with that question, since it's not directly related to the OP. Thanks!

Found some issues with my oneplus one as well after updating to marshmallow. When i select the the performance option and play games with heavy graphics (nba 2k16), it doesnt crank it up to the max performance, and i had to reboot again to get the speedy performance. This happens when i have previously selected the power save.
