ongoing symbol

after installing the update to my eris i now have a notification symbol at the top saying (ongoing: loading data, please wait).
it has been almost 24 hours now. should i be concerned. I have shut the phone off twice for ten minutes and it still keeps coming back.
ANY ADVICE?

Did you try clearing it from the notification screen?
