Only 3g in 4g area & traveling

I bought a refurbished Droid Bionic. I only get 3g in a 4g area in my home as well when Im traveling. My network Mode is set to LTE/CDMA but shaded /faded out! Verizon & seller have not idea. Network type and strength show 1x eguals 89dBm & 3g eguals 88dBm, no 4g ! Need help fast plz

It's been quite a while, but there was a similar problem with one of the early OS builds that came on the phone. If you haven't updated it, try checking for those in the phone settings.
