I know rooting voids your warranty but if u root n go back to stock does that re-enable ur warranty or is it still no.good?

Verizon is your interface to the warranty, and they aren't going to hold you to the fire on it. They want you to keep paying your monthly bill, and you can't do that if you don't have a working phone. So they are pretty forgiving on that.

If you bring a dead phone to them 3 or 4 times, then you're going to have a problem.

Actually, you have to keep paying your bill; working phone or not. But like @bluevolume says, they aren't going to give you a hard time unless you do it 3 or 4 times.

Just follow the instructions and threads on this forum and you'll have nothing to worry about. Heed the warning about backing up and all of that stuff too. But read, read and then read the instructions again. And if you get stuck, someone here will help you out.

Technically, I suppose once your warranty is voided, it's voided for good. But going back to stock and removing any trace that your phone was rooted gives Verizon nothing to prove that it was rooted, and so no justification to deny the warranty. But like others have said, even if they were to discover that your phone was rooted, there's a pretty good chance they'd still honor the warranty. If one store gave you a hard time, you could just try another... and another...

That said, the phone is 1000% better by doing what rooting enables you to do - debloating and/or installing more efficient kernels/roms - faster, smoother, better battery life.

If you ever need to take your phone back
get the stock file you need and flash it with odin
Downloads and instructions can be found HERE

There's little to no evidence to support that Verizon is able to tell when a device has been rooted if you restore it back to stock. Even so, I've never seen or heard of Verizon checking that thoroughly for root or previous root to begin with.

It would waste more time looking for traces of root or tampering than its worth, if i was a technician and i received a returned item first thing i would is flash odin then run diagnostics and if all was well i would move along.

That's what I've heard Verizon does anyway. Not Odin, but they completely restore the device, run a diagnostics, slap a refurb sticker on it, and off it goes.

Thanx for all the advice everyone.... I'm sure rooting will go smooth w all the info on the forums... I can't wait for my fone 2 run at full potential its the best fone ive ever used as is

also, you cant do a warrenty exchange in the store. you have to dial *611, and then talk to people who kinda speak english and cant dress themselves. its pretty pain free.

i followed the directions on droidxcon's rooting page for the one button root (as I am a beginner and dont want to try something to complicated right off the bat) however, when i click on start root it says 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file under testing if your device is connected... ive redownloaded the zip file and extracted a few times and still the same thing.... i even hit any key as if it didnt say that 2 c wat happened and nothing happened lol( 2 the fone the command continued with instructions but restated adb thing)... plz help someone and suggests on what rom or kernel is best for this fone (or best for a beginner) because im tired of waiting for froyo i feel like im back on my bb storm waitin for updates so i finally decided to c wat the developers have 2 offer.... Thanx everybody in advance!!!

so i finally got the phone rooted but everytime i try 2 flash cwm thru odin it says failed??

  • disable any antivirus
  • make sure you have the latest drivers
  • Change USB ports ,,best ones to use are in the back of the computer
  • make sure battery is out through the entire process

how did you end up rooting?

thanx droidxcon u have been tons of help to myself and many others... I'd donate some cash flow ur way but i'm a broke college kid for right now... my rooting problems ended up being because of a bad usb drive, but this is how i installed DL09 superclean 0.4( everything seems to be fine and super snappy so far only thing is i lost my root and must re-root idk if u always have to do this after u install a custom rom or if its just b.c of the method i did it) on my phone thought this may be helpful to others...YouTube - How To Load a Custom ROM (SuperOneClick Method) - www.TheUnlockr.com
