Only works on speakerphone?

I have a GS2 on which I cannot makes calls without being on speakerphone. Should I try to change the microphone? Has anybody here done this? How hard is it?

Does speakerphone not use the same microphone that normal talk does?

Nope, not unlocked or rooted. Its stock from TMO.

My gs3 was having the same issue, I took a needle and cleaned out the pinhole microphone and it solved the issue.

Excellent! Had the same problem with phone only working on speakerphone. Cleaned out microphone with small needle and it now works fine. Thanks much

Sorry for gravedigging but I just had to cope with this issue.
My phone broke and I had to pull my old Galaxy S2 out of a drawer which had this exact issue. Finally found a fix that involved turning off noise reduction.
On a stock S2, you can access the setting by pressing the menu button while a phone call is active.
