Open Letter to Phil and AC staff

Hi Phil,

As a Droid Incredible owner I have a wee bone to pick with you. While I appreciate your fantastic coverage of the phone, I have noticed a strange tendency on your part to omit it from benchmarking articles. Below are a few examples of benchmarks done on what I call the 1ghz snapdragon class of phones.

Droid X Benchmarks

HTC Aria benchmark tests

Evo 4G Wifi speed test

Evo 4G Wifi test

This confuses me because as a blog a major part of the value of the site comes from your traffic, and judging from the # of posts in the incredible sub forum we represent a large portion of your customer base.

I'm in no way insisting that every article be focused on the incredible, however its absence from benchmarks with similarly spec'd phones is confusing. At first I thought you had an issue with Verizon but if that were the case you wouldn't review the Droid.

I'm sure there are incredible users still within the 30 day return policy that would like to know if they should wait for the Droid X or any other new phone and would appreciate an apples to apples comparison.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful in anyway, just thought I'd ask if there was a reason for your incredible lack of benchmarking, (pun intended).

I apologize if this has been asked before but I didn't find any similar posts.

Well they have commented on this before, and basically no carrier or anyone else has offered them up a phone for testing. And you can't expect them to purchase every phone that comes out. While it does irk me that they don't have one to test you can hardly blame them entirely. From what I've seen they were given the NeXus, EVO, and X....hence the reason why these are the ones tested.

The reason I say this, not sure on the NeXus, but he commented in the podcast that he didn't take his EVO to New York for the X event because his free month of service was up. And considering he got a hold of the X before release it has to be a demo/test/dev unit. So cough up some money and purchase an Incredible for them, or talk Verizon/HTC into giving them one and I'm sure you will see it included. Just my $.02.

Thanks for the reply. I didnt see their comment about this. They did do several reviews on the incredible. unboxing, multitouch testing etc.. so I assumed they had one or had access to one.

No disrespect taken. All of the above is true, and it's frustrating for us, too. And with the sheer number of Android phones currently available and slated for release, it ain't gonna get any easier. Someone is going to feel slighted (You'll notice I didn't include the Droid in the latest benchmarks) as it's impractical to include every available phone in every test.

FWIW: The benchmark tests are fun to do, and fun to compare. And we're going to keep doing them. But they're just numbers. They're not the be all-end all of a phone's worth.

And if anyone has a line on where we can pick up a DInc. (And we might just wait for one with the new screen), lemme know.

You can have mine, if you trade me for a Droid X - I've had it for coming up on 60 days, so I'm out of luck in the trade-in-at-Verizon option... I'll even through in my Body Glove case.

Check your local Best Buy. I did a search this morning and 3 of the local ones in my area say they have them in stock. It's how I ended up getting mine.

Glad the question was asked and answered. I kinda thought my "incredible" phone was just being ignored. It's such a great phone and barely got 15 seconds of fame, let alone 15 minutes. If I wasn't holding it in my hand right now, I'd hardly believe it ever even came on the market...

It was fairly heart-wrenching to hear Phil say on the last podcast that he doesn't see a reason why anyone should buy an incredible with the Droid X coming out.

Droid X is far too big of a phone for me to find comfortable to use. The Incredible is perfect.

I get a phone every year or so with Verizon and will see what's around next time I buy a phone.

idk, there's a big difference hardware wise....two totally different processors, form, screen size, sense....i think that it's gotten the recognition it deserves around here, benchmark testing would be nice, but not really necessary. as far as incredible is obsolete now that the X is coming, idk about that...i'd say that there is a place for the incredible...X being more of a media/gaming device, incredible more of a productivity, possibly business phone, with both having the consumer/mainstream flavor as well. just would like to see less of the moto v. htc bickering...maybe having some benchmarks to compare would help? maybe it would just fan the flames...

If u need any info on the droid Inc. Try jon4lakers on YouTube. He tests every new android phone avaunt the iPhone. By the way the Inc beat the iPhone on all his tests. Lol

actually, my friend who's testing the X says that there's a bit of stutter, like a lag rendering pages when navigating...that isn't present on the incredible. but it's not faster, or slower. just has a hiccup every once in awhile.
