Hello all,

I lost the official SIM tray opener that comes with the Nexus 4.

Any recommendations on how to open it without that too?

Thank you.

You can use a number of things from a small paper clip to a safety pin. It takes a pretty hard push.

This is my first GSM phone in probably 10 years. How do SIMs and the SIM-related stuff inside phones hold up? I've been swapping them quite a bit lately because I'm testing multiple operators for my job, and I'm concerned about wearing out the contacts inside the phone and the tray mechanism.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure there designed to take a lot of abuse. I wouldn't recommend using a nano sim > micro sim adapter. I have read a few times they jam up and get stuck if you don't put them in just right, that could damage the contacts. Otherwise, the sim tray etc. should hold up fine, especially the contacts.

Anyhow, to answer the question, I would just use a paperclip. Nothing with a sharp point though, you want something with a blunt end.

I just take out an earring and use that.

FWIW, don't even bother contacting LG Support to see if they have or sell the SIM ejector tool, because I've tried, and they don't even have or know about it!

Go figure...

Another option: Ask your friends who have GSM phones or tablets if they have a spare tool. The one that came with the N4 looks no different than the one that came with my iPad.

And just don't use one bigger than the hole is on the Nexus 4. I was tired one day and grabbed the tool that came with my Nexus 7 and shoved it into the hole on the Nexus 4. Made the hole a bit bigger.

Paper clips are too large to go in the Nexus 5 opening.

I opened my Nexus 5 SIM tray bending a paper staple straight and using that. Fits perfectly, though you have to push quite hard.
