How do you tell what operating system version your phone is running?

One way is to go to settings scroll down to about phone and will tell you what Android operating system you are running such as Android 2.3.6 that mine is that will also tell you the hardware version, build number such as gingerbread recent update EL29 and so on. Hope that helps

From the home screen:

Menu --> Settings --> About Phone (it's at the bottom)
It should be in that menu.
