Opinions: did anyone done from the note 8?

Oh it's that wonderful time every 2 years where I get to sit down and look into a new phone.

Now I've only ever played with the "Big Brands" (BB, Apple, Samsung) so would like to inquire if anyone came from the Galaxy series and what the pros and cons are in your personal opinion. I can sit down and read reviews till I'm old and grey. But I always found the AC community is an honest group. So hoping people can give me there opinions.
(currently between a S10, New Pixel or the Mate 20pro)

If you're coming from a Note and you like Samsung phones, I'd stick to the S10. It's gonna be the most straight-forward port (for data, at least) and keep you from having to re-adjust to a new UI. I haven't tried any Huawei phones, but when I tried the Pixel or an LG phone (have tried the 20, went back after a week... and a G4 I believe), I always end up missing something from the Samsung lineup.

The Pixel 3's camera is amazeballs, there's no denying that...but it's stock Android. Sure, it's fast, but it's plain. No other way to refer to it. There's a lot of stuff you might be used to in your Samsung phone that you won't find on the Pixel.

Same thing happened to me on the LG phones. Their UI felt like 3-gen-ago Samsung copies, and features I came to use often on my phone were nowhere to be found on an LG (at the time, waterproofing).

But the one thing I would miss (and why I still refuse to switch to iPhone even though work is practically bullying us to do so) is Samsung Pay. There's no way that I could go back to just NFC payments after using MST to pay for stuff. Other than gas stations (and even those are starting to update to NFC terminals), the places I frequent have regular credit card terminals and I can use my phone to pay there. If this allowed you to have your Driver's License in there, I'd leave my wallet at home.

The downside of Samsung phones has always been (and probably always will be) updates. They might try to keep up with security updates regularly for the first few months, but then you'll see the decline. They just won't be as fast as getting them as a Pixel would. Not sure how fast Huawei is on this front, though.

I would probably list the things you DO use on your phone (even if it seems like a trivial feature, like a Samsung-specific app or a setting you use all the time) and check if the potential buy has it.

Then I'd go and compare camera samples. Seems like the feature you'd benefit from the most as all your options will handle the other stuff without a hitch.

erm...i doubt right now any phone can compare to Mate 20 Pro in terms of games if you ask me...My M20P lasted more than 8 hours using wifi for Ragnarok Mobile...

the main reason i left Samsung is the Bixby dedicated button...i know i can remap or whatever but i just dont like being forced.and S10P power button is so high up...

speaking of updates..i know this is gonna shock everyone but my XZ Premium recieves updates way more than my Samsung+Huawei combined...which is 8 updates since May 2018...

I came from the Galaxy Note8.

Within a few weeks of having the Mate 20 Pro I gave my Note8 to my Mother to use along side her iPhone X.

The Mate 20 Pro was a breath of fresh air, key areas where is leaped over the Note8 ans even Note9:

- Battery Life - this thing just keeps going, the Note8 pales in comparison, and this was the key reason I could not go back to the Note8, take note I am a Galaxy Note fan, having had a Note 4 previously and had a Note7 on pre-order but we all know what happened there. Anyway, the Mate 20 Pro battery is just insane, I currently have mine set to 70% Brightness, GPS/Location is always on (most of my social apps are allowed to check my location), BT always on, NFC always on, got Google Feed and Brief going, I have screen resolution set to 3120x1440 (WQHD+) etc etc.... And I still get over 8hours SOT with over 24hours off Charge, it is insane

- Charging - the 40W charging of the Mate 20 Pro will have you so spoiled you won't be able to go back to a normal phone, this phone goes from 0 to 100% in around 1hour, takes even less time of you charge from around 20%. - This coupled with the insane battery life makes this phone such a pleasure to use, I am NEVER worried about power because:
1. It takes forever to finish.
2. It takes very little time replenish.

As for EMUI, it's fast, it's fluid, and yes it takes a bit of getting used to, but not much more than getting used to Samsung UI after an LG for example, slight differences here and there but you get used to it fast.

Another major win for the Mate 20 Pro is its size, although it has a screen that is slightly larger than the Note8's, the phone itself is smaller and lighter. The Mate 20 Pro in terms of size slots between a S9 and S9+while keeping a display size the same as the S9+. I believe the S10+ is around the same size as the Mate 20 Pro in fact.

Signal quality for me has always been better with Huawei devices, this may be due to their specialized knowledge in networking, the Mate 20 Pro for me keeps WiFi and 4G LTE signal much easier than Note8 did in areas where coverage may be poor, I had a Mate 10 Pro for an extended time and the same experience with that to.

Lastly, Camera, the Mate 20 Pro's rear camera setup is incredibly diverse and allows you to explore all sorts of ways of shooting a scene, yes the S10+ has a Wide Angle but it's not as wide as the Mate 20 Pro and while the Mate 20 Pro wide angle Lense has Auto Focus the S10+ WA lens doesn't , also the Mate 20 Pro has incredible Zoom technology allowing 3x Optical Zoom and 5x Hybrid Zoom, this equates images that are highly zoomed but barely lose quality, I have no idea how they achived this but it is incredible, please see the attached example below. Also the Mate 20 Pro features Super Macro Mode allowing you to get super close to subjects like Bugs, Flowers, Water drops etc... Honestly this phone is a Camera powerhouse over and above being a battery beast and all round great gadget to have in your pocket.

If you want to try something new, get the Mate 20 Pro, if you want to stick with Samsung, get that S10+ 512GB

I heard S10+ wide angle is more wider than M20Pro, but it definitely lacks AF
