I'm back in the market for a new phone, did the galaxy 3 thing for a few months but time to move on. Anyone have any opinions of the Maxx? I'm loving the specs I'm reading.

I've had my Maxx since release, about ten months almost. There is not another device out there that is even turning my head. You may be able to pick one up cheaply on CL or eBay, or maybe in the BST forum on hofo . If you haven't tried it your missing out on a fine experience. I will add tho I'm still running gingerbread as ICS just was to problematical for me to mess with and I already have a smokin' fine device so why fix what ain't broke? If your hankering for a Maxx with ICS then you may get something less than stellar experience. Just my .02 as many rave about it, just depends on what you need and what trips your trigger I guess. I think that GB is one very solid OS while ICS is not quite fully baked.

I think it's a great phone, for the following reasons:

1. Battery battery battery. I routinely get 2 days between charges with moderate use; it'll still last one whole day with heavy use, while most other phones would need at least one charge midway through. No need for an ugly and bulky extended life battery that makes the phone look like a hunchback. No need to carry an extra charger around.

2. Solid build. Lots of metal, and then there's the Kevlar back. No plasticky feel here.

3. Relatively vanilla Android experience. I've never been a big fan of Samsung's Touchwiz or HTC's Sense--they seem a little big and fussy to me.

4. Great mobile reception, for which Motorola is renowned (although the wifi antenna is weaker than others).

5. Quite a good camera (despite how others may complain--search for my thread "Pics on my Maxx."

Some negatives:

1. ICS update is known to be glitchy in some cases, including decreased battery life, sluggish performance, etc. Cache wipe and/or factor data reset often cures these problems. Personally, I have had minimal issues.

2. Pentile screen is not to everyone's liking, since it's a little grainier--hard for me to notice, but then again, my peepers are getting a little old.

The Maxx is $49 for new subscribers and $99 for current subscribers on Amazon Wireless, so it's a pretty great deal right now!

I love mine & have zero issues with ICS. Were it me at this point in time though, I'd give serious consideration to the soon-to-be-released Razr Maxx HD.

Does the HD have better specs across the board over the Maxx?

Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD Specs, Features (Phone Scoop)

Basically the same phone, minus the 720P display, 300Mhz per core faster CPU, and a 4.7" display to give you soft keys (on-screen back, home and settings button), rather than ours that are off screen.

But its a different CPU the snapdragon s4 which is the best dual core out in the us I believe. Much better 4g battery life and overall performance over the TI omap chip.

I can't wait. Im really leaning toward the HD.

Hoping I can get a decent deal also on the HD with a contract extension and upgrade credit, otherwise God knows what they'll charge me.

To the OP, the MAXX is a great phone - the biggest plus is the awesome battery. I just went from a Bionic to a MAXX about two weeks ago and have had no issues with the ICS. It seems the only ones having problems with ICS are the ones who did the OTA from Gingerbread, but supposedly a factory reset fixes that.

Personally, I wish I had waited a few more weeks for the MAXX HD, but I'm not sure it will be a huge upgrade - a little better screen resolution and a little faster processor. It seems like every new iteration is less of an upgrade from the previous generation. The main thing with these phones is the battery - by far the most important variable in my opinion. I am shocked no other phone maker has caught on yet and offered something comparable to the MAXX

Battery life is most definetly important to me, yet I wonder if the HD will suffer more power consumption due to the resolution.

It's processor is much more efficient which makes up for the screen and more.

I do not think you can go wrong with the MAXX or MAXX HD. If money is an issue, go with the MAXX as you will be able to get it cheaper. If you can spend a little bit more (whether it is on contract, or off contract), then wait a week and get the MAXX HD.

I though the MAXX was great on Gingerbread. I still like it, since I have done the ICS upgrade, but it is not the same phone. It is lagging (of which I have to do a soft reset almost daily), but it is something that I am willing to put up with because I like Motorola products (build quality and call quality are awesome, in my opinion), and I like Android products. I have a feeling that whenever they do get an update to the initial ICS upgrade out, some of these issues will be solved, and it will still be a great phone.

Again, would I buy this phone again. Yes, no question. Even with the same issues, I still would. BUT, I also would wait one week to pick up the HD version.

I will let ya know! Btw, love your avatar. I've got labs.
