Hi guys,

I've had an Optimus G (E975) for about a month now. I have started noticing that the phone has tended to run quite hot recently and am wondering if any other users have this issue.

For example, if I am listening to the radio (TuneIn Radio), and surfing on Chrome on 3G connection. The temperature has gone up to 105F according to AndroSensor - the phone also gets quite hot to touch as well. This is also with Ecomode turned on. What I have now noticed is that even surfing the web (non-flash based websites) the temperature can already reach close to 100F. Is this normal or is there a defect internally? I am still within my warranty period and am wondering if I need to return the device.

I have read reviews stating even with heavy gaming, users have not seen battery temps go above 100F, can anyone shed any light on this issue?

I can post screenshots of AndroSensor if necessary. Currently running Android 4.1.2.

Thanks in advance.

Actually, I am surprised that 105 degrees would be considered hot... Especially when you consider that it would get up to 98 or 99 degrees powered off in a warm pocket... but I see from a quick search that 105 is on the top of what some consider safe (some say a few degrees higher is ok).

However, if it feels hot (not just warm) I don't think 105 is what you are feeling, my guess is that the radio is generating heat as well... I had a different phone that could run all day surfing wi-fi and running apps without heating up, but would get extremely hot when talking, and I would assume it would have heated up in 3g as well, but I never tried it. That was a defective unit.

I assume an overheating radio could also drive up cpu temps due to the limited ability for the phone to dissipate heat.

So, I would try running cpu intense activities that don't use use the radio to see whether the issue really is the CPU.

My galaxy nexus use to hit 128 degrees just surfing the Web or making a phone call half the time I couldn't even hold it directly on my ear it was so hot sprint didn't care one bit said it was normal I rooted and rommed and after it was a Lil better but not significantly Id take it back and exchange it before it's too late I waited to long with mine n was stuck with it

My Lg optimus G went over 133 degrees and shut down with an error saying it was too hot. And I was only playing clash of clans!

Wow that's never a good thing I've had one other phone shut down on me due to heat and that was my LG viper 4g lte it started to get hot right outta the box

My phone gets quite warm as well, however it is only when playing detailed 3D games. Ive never had it get hot enough to shut down. One thing one needs to consider about newer phones is they use rather intense SoCs. 1.5 Ghz quad core Krait CPU. That is going to generate heat, especially when there is no good way for it to dissipate heat. Combine that with the heat of your hands that are already at 98F. Point is, it really shouldn't be much of a surprise.

Well let's be real it's a manufacturer flaw think about it the international S4 has an exynos 5 octa at 2.3ghz I believe that's an 8 core device and I've not heard anything anywhere about overheating issues with them it's a quallcom thing i guess not sure really but I'd be inclined to believe it's a snapdragon issue because it's only devices with them that ever have issues really...
