I phoned for my upgrade today and havee gone for the s8 on the guys advice and the better deals he could do me £39 an month i am a iphone user im not a phone geek or anything but i dont know if i am buying a load of rubbish is this going to be a good phone for the next two years or would you cancel it and order the s9 or somthing else even though its a tad more ? Also how much of a learning curve it it going from iphone to one of these

Hi George, welcome to the forums.
The S8 is an amazing device. It is also very complex and requires a lot more hands on managing thaniPhones. If you are not tech savvy at all, you may struggle with this device. There are myriad settings in many places and it's very easy to tie yourself in knots if you blindly push buttons you really shouldn't.
However, it's worth the effort, get someone who knows android to set it up for you, perhaps even put it in simple mode for a while. That said, I have a mate who can barely read or write and he gets around ok, with me tweaking his phone now and then..
You need to bear in mind that you have an android device. It's not an iPhone, they are different, so wanting it to be like your iPhone will end in disappointment...
There you have it.. It's your call. You have one of the best phones on the market at a good price, latest software. Be brave, make the jump, come on here with any issues and we'll help you

As a user of both, I can say they operate differently. Meaning if you're used to one, the other will have a learning curve. You will struggle with the settings, but after that you'll appreciate how easy it is to put all sorts of media on the phone without any hassle. Android has much more freedom.
Put a backup of your contact list on Google drive so you can easily migrate it to Android.

On a side note, once properly setup, the s8 requires little further tweaking, or need to be tech savvy.

I would actually recommend NOT getting an Android phone if you are asking on a forum if it's a big learning curve, usually people ask about good/similar apps to iOS

It's a learning curve for sure, the same way people switching from Windows to Mac or from Mac to Windows etc

Unless you really really want a Galaxy S8/S9 I would stick with Apple, the :/ in the title of the post leads me to believe that you won't like Android (or not from the start anyways)

Also, please keep in mind (depending on if your friends and family use it) there is nothing like iMessage for the Galaxy S8/S9... or FaceTime... there are apps like them... but nowhere near as polished or "smooth" as iOS (iOS = iPhone software)

im not a ratard or anything but im just worried people saying they dont run smothly and few problems with the 8 in general i cant afford the x but i could afford the 9 so is it best to go for the 9 for the few things theyve upgraded or stick with the 8

So basicly im asking s9 or s8 as i cant afford the iphone hike same for alot of people i would imagine

S8 in that case since s9 doesn't offer that much more to justify the price difference.

As for iMessage, with WhatsApp and messenger used widely that's not that interesting anymore. Just like voicemail and sms texts on Android devices. At least here in my region.

Hi George, as a first time android user from ios, the learning curve is not steep at all, I'm puzzled by this claim. In fact even an older chap I know, who was always iPhone, said he was useless with tech, got an s8 and loved it. No issues.

I think the s8 is a great phone, still definitely worth getting. The s9 of course is better in some ways but none that would affect general use.

Enjoy it :) it's such a good phone. Having moved from iPhone you will likely really appreciate the fast charging, the always on display, notification light, widgets. There is so much to discover with it. Really good phone.

Just don't drop it! It's glass, get a case on it quick.
