It's the same time, but the east coast gets shafted b/c we'd have to stay up till 3AM local time, where as out on the west coast it's only midnight local time, which is easier for most folks to stay up till.

Honey's... VZW is in NJ... No one is shafting the east coast... they do it during off hours so their servers can handle the "flood" of traffic that pre-order and first opportunity orders will generate.

The store I'm planning on going to was very adamant about the fact that they cannot hold any. They even said that they have a guy switching his lines over from AT&T coming in at 11 and if they are sold out then they are out of luck with the Thunderbolt. So they aren't even going to hold them for people switching carriers.

It's funny to see how different the stores are run. Some will follow corporates guidance to the letter... others... they'll do whatever they have to do to make a sale.

Risky though. How pissed would you be if someone said they were going to "hold" one for you and you get there and they are all gone?

No duh VZW's in NJ, why do think the Panda keeps coming back east when he lives & works out in LA?

Is there really that much traffic on their servers at midnight eastern? Some folks gotta work on Thursday and aren't able to show up to a store at 9am or 10am and waking up at 3am just to place an online order is annoying as hell. Why not just set it for midnight eastern, 9pm pacific and then I can order before going to bed.

We're very well aware VZW is in NJ. This 3AM nonsense is still shafting the East coast, and it isn't VZW-specific either.

And they don't do it for the sake of doing it during "off hours." They do it because then everyone in America (minus Hawaii/Alaska) can order on the same day and at the same time. Why that matters? Shrug, but I guess it would be odd to say the device releases on the 17th only to let Pacific coast people be able to order it at 9PM on the 16th.

I will some companies don't follow that even though I think it makes better sense to do the 3am/12am policy. I remember trying to order a pair of Jordan's when they first release at 12am on the east coast and it went on sale 12am est. Let's just say I couldn't get the shoes because the site crashed

I don't mind that I have to stay up, I know that it is worth it in the end. Since I don't have the ability to get to a physical store due to my schedule, I can at least enjoy my Thursday with the knowledge that I will have this grand device to play with all day during my free day on Friday......

Agreed. When they allowed preorders of the iPhone people were able to get it delivered the day it was available. Some even got it a day before.
