Oreo Screen Density Settings

Is anyone else finding the Oreo screen density settings just 'off' compared to what existed in Nougat? On both the OG Pixel XL and the S8/Note 8s I've used, it was super easy to find a good screen density setting. On the 2 XL, the default setting makes things like the notification bar too big and other elements just right, while the small setting makes the notification bar the right size and all other elements too small. (On this setting I had to increase the font size to large, which creates other issues) I don't remember having these issues before, so I'm assuming this is a change that was made in Oreo. Anyone have any tips for this?

I generally roll with it at the smallest setting. Only two issues I've run into with that on the 2 XL are that the keyboard is super tiny and super low, so it's easier to have minor typing errors and that the nav bar is super low, making it somewhat difficult to reach with my normal grip. Over the last couple of months I've adjusted and now this is what I'm used to.

Yes, I'm coming from the 6P and I'm toying with the Pixel 2's display settings, and I found the small text makes some aspects way too small but gets other aspects just right. Then the "normal" setting has the too-small aspects fine, but the aspect that was already good on the small setting is now way too big on the normal setting.

I eventually went back to "normal".
On the 6P, I used small without any issue. But I didn't have Oreo on the 6P.
