Android Central Question

I have the S7 and just got the Oreo update this morning. I like to dismiss my notifications from the lock screen, but now when I do that, the badge notification on the app disappears. Is there anyway to change this? I want to keep the red dot on the apps that have a notification that I dismissed from the lock/notification screen.

I tried the above recommendation, and as far as I can tell it did not work. I honestly have tried quite a few different things regarding this and looked at many forums.

In addition to the badges disappearing if I dismiss a notification from the system tray, the issue goes a bit further for me. Let's say messages, email, FB messenger, or the like have an app icon badge displaying 4 unread messages. I will open that app, and see the 4 unread messages, but I'm not clicking on them so they still remain unread. Once I leave the application the icon badge displaying the unread count disappears altogether even though I did not read the messages. It definitely was not this way on Nougat 7.0. I feel this is an essential feature since it let's you know that you still have unread messages that you maybe didn't have the time to get to at the moment the notification popped up, or maybe you had time to respond to some of the unread messages but not all of them.

Steps I have taken to address this:

1. Tried the above suggestion of turning the counter off and restarting my phone.
2. Wiped cache partition and restarted my phone.
3. Gone in to settings>apps>3 dots>special access>notification access>turned off and on Samsung Experience Home and restarted, and did turned on Notification in there and restarted and also turned off and restarted.
4. Checked with each application that notifications are enabled
5. Went to Verizon store, they were not sure. Went to Best Buy, they were not sure. Called Samsung customer service - according to them this feature was intended, but I'm not sure if it was actually clear to them what was being discussed, and it sounds as if other phones are having various versions of this issue, so it's hard to tell how intentional or not this is.

Beyond all this, does anyone have any other thoughts on solutions? I looked into an app called Notifyer that will apparently apply iOS looking badges, but I'm honestly not sure if that's a fix.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: The wording under the "App Icon Badges" setting in the phone says "When you dismiss all the notifications, the badge disappears." Looks like this very well may be intentional then.

no fix yet?

Unfortunately I have not seen anything yet, though it's possible something has happened since then. I still have my app icon badge unread count disappear after opening whatever app that is. Sorry I could not be of more help.
