Is "Oreo" the same thing as the new WearOS?

Wear OS is strictly a name change and did not impact the actual watch software. We are waiting for the actual watch OS update to Oreo.
Today it was announced the software update for us is delayed with no eta due to bugs.
I am glad they are fixing bugs before the rollout but it shows they didn't start looking into the update until recently. Oreo has been out for watches long enough that any bugs should have been found weeks ago not days before the launch.

Got my update today

I received my update as well. Looked at the Mobvoi forum yesterday, and they posted this schedule for getting the update pushed OTA:

10%: 11th May 2018
50%: 14th May 2018
100%: 16th May 2018

A software change came along with the name change to Wear OS.
If I recall correctly it was when the swipe left or right changed the watchface. What a ridiculous "feature".
