OS 2.1 Question...It's on a phone I bought on eBay...

Bought a "new" Droid Eris on eBay...it didnt come in the original box but it still had the plastic film covering the screen and phone was in perfect condition like new.

I activated it on my Verizon account with no problems with the ESN.

I started playing with it as this is my first android phone...

I am playing in the settings looking at stuff and notice that the firmware version says 2.1 ?

Am I running a leak ? or what ?

I've seen a bunch advertised on eBay with the 2.1 OS listed. Not sure if they rooted and then did that or just did the leaked 2.1.

I'm sure one of the regular folks could give more info....

i was looking at the pick and i have the second leak on my phone and when i looked at your kernal and release key they both are different so im thinking root but could be first leak

It's 2.1V1

If it is 2.1v1 the good news is you can flash it to v2. I don't think you can root it but you can reflash with the 2.1v2.

I'll never be able to root it ? or I'd have to downgrade to something first and then root ?

So far no down grade but some one will eventually find away

Over at phandroid somebody has said that his cousin has a method to downgrade to 1.5 from a leaked, non-root ROM, but we won't have verification for at least a few days.

The thread is locked for now (for good reason, if you read through it), but you can check on progress if you wish.

i'm used to tinkering with Blackberry OS's , but this android, root, leak, rom stuff seems a little more permanent. Not sure I like all that!
